Riding the A1A North to Flagler Beach and St. Augustine
A1A North to Flagler Beach and St. Augustine: a 51-mile coastal ride from Main Street at A1A, Daytona Beach to Castillo de San Marcos, St. Augustine. Plan on about 1 hr 30 min of riding, plus stops.
Point the bike north on A1A from Main Street and follow the coast through Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea. Past the Volusia County line, the road runs a scenic stretch along the ocean in Flagler Beach, where the pier makes an easy first stop. Continue north past Marineland into St. Johns County. Part of A1A along this coast carries the A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway name, a National Scenic Byway.
The ride ends in St. Augustine near the Castillo de San Marcos, a good place to park and explore on foot. The distance is moderate, but stops and beach-town speed limits make this a full day. For a quicker trip back, take I-95 south.
