Thunder Beach brings riders to Panama City Beach, Florida, twice a year, once in spring and again in autumn. Entry to the rally venues is free, and the action spreads from Frank Brown Park to Front Beach Road and Thomas Drive. This independent guide covers dates, lodging areas, local rides, laws and the practical details that make planning easier.

01

What Thunder Beach is

Thunder Beach is a five-day motorcycle rally on Florida’s Gulf Coast. It runs twice a year: a spring rally that straddles the end of April and the start of May, and an autumn rally in late October. The organizer, Thunder Beach Productions, invites riders to attend at no charge, and Visit Panama City Beach promotes it as one of the most biker-friendly free rallies in the country.

The next rally is the autumn 2026 edition, October 21 to 25, 2026. The organizer has also posted spring 2027 dates: April 28 to May 2, 2027.

02

Where it happens

There is no single fenced rally ground. The organizer lists Frank Brown Park, Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach and the Crossroads lot on Front Beach Road as its main venues. Partner venues include The Bike Rack, Sharky’s Beachfront and McGuire’s Irish Pub on Front Beach Road, plus Hammerhead Fred’s on Thomas Drive. Frank Brown Park is the biggest hub, with vendor rows, factory demo rides and live music under a large tent.

03

What to expect

  • Vendor villages at several venues
  • Custom bike shows and audio sound-off competitions
  • Factory demo rides at Frank Brown Park
  • Live music, stunt shows, biker games and the Miss Thunder Beach pageant
  • A Blessing of the Bikes on the final Sunday
04

A rally with a long history

The event traces back to spring 1999, when a group of Georgia HOG riders and the Sandpiper Beacon resort held a small gathering called the Bike & Beach Bash. The first autumn rally followed in 2001. Visit Panama City Beach now says each rally draws more than 60,000 riders.

FAQ

Questions riders ask

The next rally is the autumn 2026 edition, running Wednesday, October 21 to Sunday, October 25, 2026. The organizer has also posted spring 2027 dates of April 28 to May 2, 2027. Autumn 2027 dates have not been announced yet. Dates can shift, so confirm them on the organizer’s website before you book anything nonrefundable.

Yes. The organizer’s FAQ says you can attend at no charge at multiple locations, and motorcycle parking at the venues is free. Car parking is paid. The organizer’s website also links to a ticketing page, so check whether any special events need a ticket. Food, drinks and vendor shopping are on you.

Frank Brown Park, at 16200 Panama City Beach Parkway (US-98), is the largest rally hub. It hosts the main vendor village, factory demo rides and the Thunder Beach Saloon tent with live music. The organizer suggests entering and leaving at the traffic light at Pier Park Drive. Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach is about a mile east.

Only in some cases. Riders and passengers under 21 must wear a helmet. Riders 21 and older can legally ride without one if they carry insurance with at least $10,000 in medical benefits for crash injuries. Every motorcycle operator must wear approved eye protection, your headlight must be on, and lane splitting is not allowed.

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) in West Bay is the closest, about 14 miles from Frank Brown Park. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) is about 54 miles west. Pensacola and Tallahassee airports are farther, roughly two to three hours by road. From I-10, SR-79, SR-77 and US-231 all lead south toward the coast.

It is worth planning for. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the National Hurricane Center says most activity falls between mid-August and mid-October. Hurricane Michael struck this area on October 10, 2018. Book refundable lodging when you can, watch forecasts in the weeks before the rally, and check the organizer’s updates.
