Thunder Beach trip planner in brief
Use this Thunder Beach trip planner to get ready for the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally (October 21 to 25, 2026): when to book, a budget outline, how to get there and where to park. Check for schedule updates on the official Thunder Beach website as your trip gets closer.
Planning timeline
3 to 6 months out
Book lodging, especially for the spring rally. Ask about cancellation terms, minimum stays and where bikes and trailers can park.
1 to 2 months out
Check the organizer’s schedule for bike shows, demo rides and music. Get your bike serviced: tires, brakes, fluids and battery.
2 weeks out
Plan your route in, confirm reservations and check that your registration and insurance cards are current. For the autumn rally, start watching tropical forecasts.
Rally week
Arrive early in the day if you can, run errands before evening traffic builds, and save the venue addresses in your phone.
Budget categories
Admission to the rally venues is free, which leaves more room for everything else. Build your budget around these items:
- Lodging, often the largest cost
- Fuel for the ride in and for day trips
- Food and drinks at venues and restaurants
- Car or trailer parking, since only motorcycle parking is free at the venues
- State park entry fees for day rides
- Bike show or contest entries, if you plan to compete
- Vendor shopping, rally merchandise and parts
- Trip insurance or flexible booking for the autumn rally
- Medical insurance coverage if you plan to ride without a helmet
Getting to Panama City Beach
From I-10, three main roads lead south to the coast: SR-79, SR-77 and US-231. SR-79 comes down close to Frank Brown Park, while US-231 arrives through Panama City. US-98 runs along the coast from Destin in the west and from Port St. Joe and Apalachicola in the east. In town, US-98 is called Panama City Beach Parkway, also known as Back Beach Road, and Front Beach Road (SR-30) follows the Gulf.
Flying in? Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) is about 14 miles from Frank Brown Park. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) is about 54 miles west. Pensacola (PNS) and Tallahassee (TLH) are each more than 110 road miles away. If you plan to rent a bike, reserve it well ahead of rally week.
Parking at the rally
- Motorcycle parking at the venues is free, according to the organizer.
- Car parking is paid, and accessible car parking is first come, first served.
- The organizer lists three trailer parking areas: across from Ripley’s Believe It or Not, at the corner of Churchwell and Front Beach Road behind the Oceanvilla parking deck, and behind the Burger King on Front Beach Road.
- At Frank Brown Park, the organizer suggests using the traffic light at Pier Park Drive to enter and exit.
- Harley-Davidson of Panama City Beach has offered plenty of free bike parking plus a free shuttle from overflow parking at Destiny Worship Center.
Parking setups can change from rally to rally, so check the organizer’s FAQ before you go.
