Riding the Crawford Notch (US 302)

Crawford Notch (US 302): a 29-mile mountain ride from Twin Mountain, NH to Glen, NH. Plan on about 40–50 min of riding, plus stops.

From Twin Mountain, US 302 heads east past Bretton Woods, home of the historic Mount Washington Hotel, then climbs to the top of Crawford Notch at about 1,900 feet near Saco Lake and the old Crawford Depot. From there the road drops south through Crawford Notch State Park, following the Saco River through a steep-sided pass with waterfalls, trailheads and the Willey House historic site. It eases out through Bartlett to the junction with NH 16 in the village of Glen. From Glen, you can head south toward North Conway or turn north on NH 16 through Pinkham Notch to the Mount Washington Auto Road.

Timing: About 40 to 50 minutes without stops.

Open the Crawford Notch (US 302) in Google Maps before you leave, and check the National Weather Service forecast for the area on the day.
