Riding the Lake Winnipesaukee Loop
Lake Winnipesaukee Loop: a 60-mile mixed-road loop starting at Weirs Beach, Laconia, NH. Plan on about 2 hr of riding, plus stops.
This loop circles New Hampshire’s largest lake on two-lane state highways, and the regional tourism association puts the full circuit at about 60 miles. From Weirs Beach, head north on US 3 to Meredith, then east on NH 25 through Center Harbor to Moultonborough. Turn south on NH 109, a winding road with frequent views of the water, and follow it to Wolfeboro.
NH 28 carries you south to Alton Bay, where NH 11 runs west along the lake’s southern shore through Gilford and back toward Laconia. Expect heavy rally traffic near Weirs Beach and Meredith, so start early. Good stops include Castle in the Clouds near Moultonborough and Ellacoya State Park in Gilford.
Timing: About 2 hours without stops.
