Roar to the Shore ride routes in brief
These Roar to the Shore ride routes are day rides from the Wildwoods along the Jersey Shore and the Delaware Bay, with distance, ride time and a Google Maps link for each. Check road conditions and the National Weather Service forecast before you set out.
Before you ride
South Jersey is flat, and most of these roads run at low to moderate speeds, so think scenery rides rather than twisties. A few things help:
Bridge tolls
Several Ocean Drive drawbridges charge a toll in one direction. They take E-ZPass or bill by plate, so carry your transponder.
Drawbridges
Bridges open for boat traffic, so build in a few minutes. If a bridge has a metal grate deck, keep a light grip and a steady throttle.
Sand
Beach blocks and parking lots collect sand. Brake early near the ocean end of side streets.
Traffic
Route 47 is known for backups on busy weekends. Early starts help.
Wind and weather
Bridges and causeways catch crosswinds off the bay and ocean. Check the forecast, especially during peak hurricane season.
Pick your ride
Short on time? Ocean Drive south to Cape May Point takes well under an hour. For a full day, pair the ferry with lunch in Lewes or Rehoboth Beach. The bayshore and Pine Barrens rides take you away from the beach crowds entirely, and the Pine Barrens run is the longest of the five.
Bridge work can close or slow parts of Ocean Drive, so check Cape May County Bridge Commission notices before you head out.
