Riding the Route 47 Bayshore to East Point Lighthouse
Route 47 Bayshore to East Point Lighthouse: a 35-mile backroads ride from Wildwoods Convention Center, Wildwood, NJ to East Point Lighthouse, Heislerville, NJ. Plan on about 1 hr 15 min of riding, plus stops.
Leave Wildwood the way most visitors arrive, on Rio Grande Avenue over the George Redding Bridge, but stay on Route 47 north instead of joining the Parkway. Delsea Drive runs up the bay side of the Cape May peninsula through Rio Grande, Green Creek and Dennisville, with wide marshland toward Delaware Bay. Past Dennisville, turn onto Glade Road (County Route 616) toward Heislerville and follow East Point Road to the end. There the 1849 East Point Lighthouse stands at the mouth of the Maurice River. Return the same way, or continue north on Route 47 toward Port Elizabeth and Millville. Route 47 can crawl on busy weekends, so start early.
Timing: About 1 hour 15 minutes.
