Riding the North to Wilmington via Calabash

North to Wilmington via Calabash: a 61-mile mixed-road ride from Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach, SC to Battleship North Carolina, Wilmington, NC. Plan on about 1 hr 45 min of riding, plus stops.

Start at Barefoot Landing and ride US 17 north through Little River into North Carolina. Calabash, just over the line, is known as the seafood capital of the world and makes a good early lunch stop. From there, take NC 179, a slower road closer to the coast, to Shallotte, then rejoin US 17 for the run into Wilmington. The ride ends at the Battleship North Carolina, a World War II battleship that has been a museum ship since 1962. Remember that North Carolina requires helmets for every rider and passenger, so put yours on before you cross the state line.

Open the North to Wilmington via Calabash in Google Maps before you leave, and check the National Weather Service forecast for the area on the day.
